Job Description

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the company's tax compliance, planning, and reporting. You will work closely with the Tax Manager and other finance professionals to ensure that all tax-related activities align with regulatory requirements and support the company's financial goals. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in tax accounting, a thorough understanding of tax laws, and the ability to provide strategic tax advice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance & Reporting:

    • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
    • Oversee the timely filing of all tax returns and ensure accurate reporting of tax-related information.
    • Manage tax provision processes, including the calculation of deferred taxes, ensuring alignment with GAAP.
  • Tax Planning & Strategy:

    • Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize the company's financial position.
    • Analyze and interpret tax regulations, providing recommendations for tax-efficient structures and transactions.
    • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations, advising management on potential impacts and opportunities.
  • Audit & Regulatory Support:

    • Coordinate and support tax audits, providing necessary documentation and addressing inquiries from tax authorities.
    • Prepare responses to tax notices and represent the company in dealings with tax authorities as required.
    • Assist in the preparation of tax-related disclosures for financial statements and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Process Improvement & Documentation:

    • Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, workflows, and systems, implementing changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Maintain organized and up-to-date tax records, ensuring easy access for internal and external audits.
    • Document tax positions and ensure consistency in tax reporting across the organization.
  • Collaboration & Advisory:

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to support business initiatives and provide tax-related guidance.
    • Provide training and mentorship to junior tax staff, fostering their professional development and ensuring high-quality work output.
    • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • CPA is required.
    • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in tax accounting, preferably within a public accounting firm or corporate tax department.
    • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, as well as tax accounting principles (GAAP, ASC 740).
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in tax preparation software (e.g., CCH, ProSystem fx, UltraTax) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
    • Experience with tax research tools (e.g., RIA, CCH) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is a plus.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and financial data.
  • Soft Skills:

    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to identify tax-related issues and propose effective solutions.
    • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, colleagues, and tax authorities.
