General Functions:

The Alaska Native Justice Center (ANJC) Project Manager will lead ANJC’s work with partners to implement tribal justice action plans, including efforts to provide administrative support to an intertribal court and manage coordination for other ANJC projects and conferences, as needed. The manager will help oversee all planning and implementation stages of the intertribal court. Duties include organizing and facilitating meetings with stakeholders, developing effective communication strategies, and developing a coordinated platform for court materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize, coordinate, and facilitate stakeholder meetings, including meetings related to establishing an intertribal court.
  • Document preparation and other deliverables (PowerPoint, Word, PDF), including meeting agendas and meeting summaries.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design implementation phases and timeline for projects, including the intertribal court.
  • Professional, timely communication with stakeholders.
  • Maintain open communication and timely information sharing within internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with participating Tribes to prepare all court related materials, including Rules of Court, Model Code, and a court schedule and calendaring system.
  • Facilitate trainings to prepare intertribal court to hear cases. Trainings should cover the types of hearings the intertribal court will preside over, the maintenance of case files, and the legal and ethical bounds of confidentiality.
  • Prepare, update, and produce legal resource materials, power points, and other printed materials as appropriate.
  • Provide training and resources to participating Tribes.
  • Be the main point of contact for stakeholders.
  • Manage project set-up and ongoing communication, such as, but not limited to stakeholder meetings.
  • Solicit, help to select and manage consultants as needed for various projects.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

  • Comfort with public speaking: ability to coordinate prepare for, and facilitate meetings (virtual, in-person, or hybrid).
  • Time Management – perform tasks and responsibilities in timely, consistent, and organized manner.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information and requirements to a wide variety of stakeholders and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Alaska Native and American Indian culture and governance.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business, Human Services or Social Work.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or other project management certification.
  • Three years of project management-relevant experience with degree. Five or more years without degree.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Suite, including SharePoint, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat PDF.
  • Competency in Zoom, Teams, and other virtual meeting platforms.
  • Accountable, positive attitude, and dependable.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License and be insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance requiring a driver to be at least 21 years of age.
  • Prior experience working with Alaska Tribes or Tribal Organizations.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon a receipt of a satisfactory state and federal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with tribal courts, tribal health care, or related project management experience.
  • Experience providing training and/or technical assistance to Tribes.
  • Direct experience working in rural Alaska.
  • Direct experience with tribal court implementation or proceedings.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Juris Doctor or other advanced degree.

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily works in an office setting, with extended periods of time at a desk and on a computer.
