Summary District Court Probation has an opening for the position of Probation Officer I or II depending on qualifications.
Key Duties: - Performs a variety of professional caseload activities for defendants referred to District Court Probation. Develops probation agreements in accordance with court orders.
- Monitors defendants' compliance with court orders, and provides other services as alternatives to incarceration.
- Refers defendants to programs as required by the court, and other programs as appropriate to their situation or needs.
- Works under minimal supervision exercising independent judgment in analyzing problems, issues and situations.
- Develops and implements recommendations.
- Complies with legal standards and requirements.
- Performs caseload activities such as client appointments, communication with treatment providers, community-based organizations, law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies.
- Prepares and presents concise written and/or oral reports to the court regarding a defendant's compliance with court orders, including probation violation recommendations, with supporting documentation.
- Collects and assesses information as requested by the court for bail/release investigations, indigent reviews, and pre- and post-sentence investigations.
- Performs caseload audits as requested.

- Probation Officer I: MCBA- Range 160.0
Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (approx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in social science, criminology, psychology or a related field AND 2 years of progressively responsible experience in the criminal justice system or with counseling programs.
- Education and experience working in the areas of substance abuse disorders, domestic violence, and mental health strongly preferred.
- Experience with case management, interviewing and working with community treatment agencies preferred.
- Spanish fluency desired.
- Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.
- Required to have own transportation, with reimbursement for mileage.
- Background check must meet County criteria for criminal justice positions.

Supplemental Information Probation Officer I: - Must complete and successfully pass the Misdemeanant Probation Counselor Academywithin six months of employment, or when available, as required by WAC 139-10-235 (RCW 43.101.220).
- Required to successfully complete a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education related to area of assignment each year, on topics pre-approved by the Probation Manager.
Probation Officer II: - Must complete and successfully pass the examination to be a Certified Pretrial Services Professional with the National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies within six months of becoming a Probation Officer II.
- Must complete and successfully pass the Misdemeanant Probation Counselor Academywithin six months of employment, or when available, as required by WAC 139-10-235 (RCW 43.101.220).
