Job Summary **FIRST REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS SEPTEMBER 16TH The Probation Officer provides supervision to Community Corrections clients of all ages and levels of offenses, including diversion, pretrial, probation and supervised release supervision. The Probation Officer provides assistance to victims of crimes and promotes public safety through supervision, accountability and rehabilitation of clients. This position provides investigative services to the court and releasing authorities and assesses risk and treatment needs of clients. The Probation Officer utilizes evidence-based practices to promote and enhance client change. Probation Officers must be accessible by law enforcement and other system stakeholders in emergency cases after normal business hours as well as on weekends and holidays.
Examples of Duties - Manage client caseload by meeting established contact standards through office contacts, home/field contacts, and collateral/treatment contacts.
- Implement core-correctional practices including application of the cognitive model within a caseload or in group facilitation.
- Rotate through weekly "on call" duty to respond to emergency situations on weekends, holidays, and non-office hours; responds to after-hours emergencies as necessary.
- Conduct pre-sentence investigations, risk/need assessments, transfer investigations, chemical use screens, domestic violence/sex offense screens, pre-trial bail evaluations and related investigations. Collect victim impact and restitution information.
- Attend case conferences, discharge meetings, placement planning meetings, and other related meetings to review client progress and needs to develop case plans and/or make appropriate referrals to treatment or community resources.
- Establish payment plans for restitution, and fees.
- Document case activities to facilitate effective case planning and provide court/releasing authority with information needed to make informed decisions.
- Prepare violation, progress, and discharge reports, maintain timely, well-organized case records and notes, and appear at court and Supervised Release hearings.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in criminology, sociology, psychology or related field. Must pass criminal background check to include fingerprinting. Valid MN Driver's License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Training in Motivational Interviewing, Core Correctional Practices, and LSCMI preferred. Two or more years' experience in community corrections or probation department strongly preferred, completion of an internship in the field of Probation.
Supplemental Information HIRING RANGE / UNION: $33.21 - $46.58 per hour / CC - Grade 12
HOURS: Normal business hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. Position is fulltime, 40 hours per week. May include occasional evening and weekend hours.
