Location: Falmouth, MA Provides the artistic vision of The Falmouth Chorale in keeping with the Chorales mission and is responsible for the leadership and direction of every aspect of the performances by the chorus and orchestra. The guest conductor reports to the Board of Directors and works in conjunction and in consultation with the Board President and General Manager.
Qualifications: Advanced Degree in Choral Conducting or equivalent Experience in choral and instrumental conducting Knowledge of choral music and experience with a variety of musical styles and traditions Ability to work effectively with singers with a range of musical abilities Ability to develop repertoire suited to and reflective of the Chorale community Proficiency in coordinating the logistical and musical elements of concert performances Facility in developing a strong working relationship with an accompanist Sensitivity to cultural background(s) of members Efficiency and clarity in communication Aptitude for leadership Capacity to work through problems even-handedly and to resolve conflict kindly and firmly Principal duties: Plan concert series with culturally relevant repertoire for the Chorale Determine the instrumentalists, soloists and part rental/sheet music needs of each concert run, working within a predetermined budget and in cooperation with the Board of Directors Train, rehearse and direct the Chorale, including vocal/physical warm ups, learning the music and preparing for public performance Organize sectionals and occasional additional rehearsals as needed Conduct the Chorale, orchestra, and soloists at concerts Arrange for a substitute Choral Director in his or her absence Maintain positive relationships with the Chorale and the Board through effective and timely oral and written interpersonal communications Work with the Board to coordinate details for the Chorales public performances Work with the General Manager to prepare music Work with the General Manager to suggest rehearsal aids
