POSITION TITLE: Converting SuperintendentREPORTS TO: Plant ManagerSUMMARYThe Converting Superintendent is tasked with managing the entire converting department. They must work to maintain safety, quality, the work force and efficient production.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSuperintendent is responsible for Converting Supervisors and departmental Hourly Employees. You are expected to be an active member of the safety Committee.Oversee performance of all 3 shifts. A normal 10 hour day, 60/40 for hours on floor vs. at desk. This includes approximately 125 employees.Communicate plant standards to staff. Must be able to interact effectively with all other departments especially scheduling and maintenance.Establish high morale throughout your staff by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems. Be engaged with all employees through daily interaction.Report to the Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager any mechanical, scheduling, or personnel problems that may have significant effects on operations. Be engaged in all projects that involve any part of the converting department.Oversee the proper training and manning of plant Converting Department positions.Responsible to coordinate maintenance work with a minimum of downtime with scheduling and maintenance team.Help with solutions to solve production problems. Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, safety program, and good housekeeping.Additional duties may be assigned by management.Other responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; conflict resolution; team building; coaching and leading employees to improve; addressing complaints and resolving problems; documentation; and setting an example of superior behavior, attitude and performance.LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES: The individual must possess the following:Superior time management skills including the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently and the ability to lead an effective and efficient meeting.Teaching skills in order to function effectively as a teacher for his/her personnel both in the sales and administrative parts of the position.Demonstrate an ability to interact and engage` with high profile customers.Excellent crisis manager who demonstrates that he/she has a high emotional control under adverse conditions and can lead his/her personnel to a successful resolution.Excellent team building skills, between crews and other departments.Excellent employee relations skills including being an active listener, understanding how to appraise personnel, applying both positive and corrective feedback, being able to resolve conflicts either involving the supervisor directly or as a third party, understands and demonstrates positive motivational skills including coaching and delegation techniques.Demonstrated confidence including providing a consistent leadership style with an acceptable level of professional assertiveness.Professional appearance to support his/her role as a managerial representative. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or GED.Must have a minimum of at least 2 years in a Supervisory or Managerial role.Preferred minimum of five years in the Corrugated IndustryLANGUAGE SKILLSAble to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Possess the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Possess the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLSMust be able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurements, volume and rates. Must be able to apply concepts of high school math.REASONING ABILITYMust possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Must possess the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.TECHNICAL SKILLSThe individual must have a working knowledge of the following:Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation. This also supports the supervisor's role of teacher and trainer for his/her personnel.Cost and budgetary issues in order to make daily decisions that will reduce overall costs and will help the supervisors find areas that require improvement. This includes but is not limited to the management or delegation all supplies, tooling, and ink management.PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTSThe performance of the superintendent will be measured as follows:Operating standards - the superintendent will need to meet or exceed the Operating Standards in the areas of quality, cost, safety, customer satisfaction and productivity. Such standards will be set annually and communicated to the superintendent.Personal growth - while the company will provide the tools to assist the superintendent to grow professionally the responsibility for moving forward lies with the individual.
